-AS UYO SENATORIAL DISTRICT YOUTH ENDORSE UDOM FOR GOVERNOR, OBA FOR SENATE

The governorship aspiration of the Immediate Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Mr Udom G. Emmanuel received a massive boost on Friday as an erstwhile aspirant in the race and former Commissioner for Finance, Obong Bassey Albert in the state handed over his political structure to the former Zenith bank Director. Obong Akpan who performed the handing over ceremony in three separate but related events expressed his unflinching loyalty to the party and his support for the governorship aspiration of Mr Udom Emmanuel.

The first handing over ceremony took place at Obong Albert’s Shelter Afrique country home where in the presence of a former Governor of the state, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga and the state deputy governor, Lady Valerie Ebe and other party elders expressed his decision to drum support for the candidature of Mr Udom Emmanuel. Obong Albert took out time to introduce the frontline members of his Akwa Ubok Abasi campaign team who championed his governorship aspiration. He said his decision to line behind Udom Emmanuel is inspired by the good advice he received from the elders of the party. He said that with his current support, the Udom Emmanuel candidacy will be impossible to beat.

The second handing over ceremony which took place at an open field one minute away from Obong Albert’s residence had key coordinators, leaders of political groups and core supporters in attendance. The ecstatic crowd cheered to every line made by respective speakers at the event. Speaking on behalf of the Akwa Ubok Abasi campaign team, the Chairman, Obong Sunny Ibuot thanked his principal for choosing the path of honour and dignity in respecting the decision of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone the Akwa Ibom governorship Slot to Eket Senatorial District. He said the OBA was intact and will work assiduously for the emergence of Udom Emmanuel as Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Obong Bassey Albert as the next senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In his speech at the brief ceremony, Obong Bassey Albert said his decision to withdraw from the governorship race is based on his respect for constituted authority and the party.

He said he tried his best to sell himself to the people of the state and that his efforts recorded tremendous support. He noted that he was one of the most serious contenders for the governorship. He drew inspiration from the Ecclesiates 11; that “the battle is not for the swift or the race for the strong but time and chance is given to them by God”. Obong Albert as a humble and obedient child of the state and the party, he received his direction from the book of Ephesians 6:1 that says that children should obey their parents in the lord, for it is right, they should honour their fathers and their mothers as it is the first commandments with a promise, that it may be well with them and they will live long on earth. He explained that he respected the party’s decision because the supremacy of the party is sacrosanct. He said his hands were tight when the party made the decision and as someone who was groomed, nurtured and trained by the Governor of the state, Chief Godswill Akpabio he stuck to the laid down rules.

He reminded his supporters that throughout his campaigns in the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State, he never insulted the governor or called him names because “when someone does a good thing for you, it is wrong to pay him back with evil”. Obong Albert told his supporters that it is their decision to stay in the party and negotiate their interest. He announced that having painstakingly studied the aspirants in Eket Senatorial District, he strongly believes that Udom Emmanuel is the best.

He said with the Akwa Ubok Abasi political structure behind Udom, his governorship aspiration is a done deal.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Udom Emmanuel Central Working Committee and former Governor of the state, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga expressed his delight at the merging of both camps. He said the development was clear expression of God’s hands in the project. He thanked Obong Bassey Albert for the respect for the elders and the party and prayed God to bless him abundantly. He assured that Udom Emmanuel will warmly embrace him (Bassey) and his supporters.
In his response, Mr Udom Emmanuel said he was grateful to God for the events of the day and described it as God ordained. He thanked Obong Bassey Albert and his teeming supporters for the show of love and solidarity. He pledged to work with everybody for the development of Akwa Ibom State.

UYO SENATORIAL DISTRICT YOUTH ENDORSE UDOM FOR GOVERNOR, OBA FOR SENATE
Elsewhere, the youths of Uyo Senatorial District under the umbrella of Uyo Senatorial District Youth Coalition (USDYC) had gathered at the Sir Udo Udoma Hall along Udo Udoma Avenue to drum support for President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Godswill Akpabio and Obong Bassey Albert. Speaking at the well-attended occasion, the Pro Chancellor of the University of Benin, Distinguished Senator Effiong Bob expressed delight at the turn out of youths to the rally. He re-echoed the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone the governorship seat of Akwa Ibom to Eket Senatorial District and thanked the right thinking people of Uyo Senatorial District for standing by the party and her decisions. Senator Bob assured Uyo people that their interest is sufficiently protected. He encouraged the youths to support President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office. He said Mr Udom Emmanuel is the best material for the governorship and deserves the support of every person. He also endorsed Obong Bassey Albert to join the college of senators from Akwa Ibom State.

The President of the Coalition, Mr Moses Essien thanked the youths for turning out enmass to the event. He said the youths of the district were interested in ensuring that the best leaders emerged in different offices at the next general elections. He pledged support on behalf of the coalition for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Governor Godswill Akpabio, Mr Udom Emmanuel and Obong Bassey Albert in their aspirations.

Addressing the rally, former Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliamen t and member, representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly , Barr Onofiok Luke recalled that in 2005, seven years ago, he urged Mr Udom Emmanuel in Lagos to return home and contest for the governorship position and today the dream has come to pass. Barr Luke appreciated the Governor Chief Godswil Akpabio, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Unoma Akpabio, the PDP and his constituents for the positive role they played in electing him as the standard bearer of the party for the assembly elections. He urged the youth to support Udom Emmanuel for the Governorship and Bassey Albert for the senate seat.

Inspired by the victory at the just concluded PDP House of Assembly primaries, the political machinery of Mr Udom G. Emmanuel, the leading governorship aspirant in the Akwa Ibom 2015 race recorded another resounding success at the PDP House of Representatives primaries on Saturday. The Udom political structure swept the entire 10 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) tickets in the 10 Federal Constituencies of the State.

In Oron Federal Constituency, the former deputy state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon Nse Ekpeyong thrashed the highly loquacious incumbent, Hon Robinson Uwak to pick the reps ticket. Sensing defeat, Hon Uwak hurriedly went on the facebook at about 2.57pm to announce his withdrawal from the race. “The outgoing governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Dr Barr Godswill Obot Akpabio CON, the uncommon transformer of Annang land this morning openly ordered
